How to leave a legacy

My dad would pick fruit and sell it to a nearby market at age 10. His life living in the Philippines was so different, it gives me an undeniable sense of gratitude as a first-generation American. But he isn't the reason my family resides in Hawaii instead of PI. Because of two strong women, my grandma and mom, I have a life full of opportunities.

They wanted a better life for themselves. And they were going to make it happen, no matter what -- language barrier, isolation, uncertainty. My grandma couldn't stitch together two sentences when she landed in Hawaii to sell tourists puka shells at The International Market Place 40-years-ago. A single mother of five, she was determined to start a new life for my dad and his siblings. Every day she pushed through her challenges, put on her winning smile, and made everyone who crossed her kiosk feel like they were on the best vacation ever. My mom's grit was no different.

At 20-years-old, she bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii with no family or friends by her side. With no job lined up, she took the entrepreneurial route selling gold jewelry, and she made a good living from it. Around this time, my grandma scaled her business from selling puka shells at a kiosk to becoming a wholesale supplier to multiple kiosks. This was the fast track to fly her kids to Hawaii. That's when my aunty befriended my mom, met my dad, and the rest is history.

That love, desire, and commitment to design a better life is powerful. And this story is the reason why I believe empowering female entrepreneurs will leave a legacy generation after generation.

My commitment is to create more stories like this.

Wanting a better life for yourself is your purpose. Creating an impact-driven business is the ticket to accomplishing all your personal and professional ambitions. But this journey comes with its share of challenges and responsibilities. Unlike my grandma and mom, you have a head start.

All you need now is a community to support you on this journey, a group of like-minded women to share your doubts. You'll learn from, and best of all, celebrate your accomplishments with them.

Here are three ways you can succeed with a community

Personal and professional growth

You'll learn a lot about yourself on this journey, like your boundaries, passion, and the legacy you want to leave behind. Growth comes with its challenges - feeling unworthy and an impostor. When this hits, you'll need to tap into something bigger than yourself.

Sounding board and beta testing

Community is the biggest asset we have. Feeling alone is the number one reason why business owners quit. Imagine having a network of entrepreneurs to co-work with! The opportunities are endless - collaboration, hosting events, brainstorming.

Motivation and inspiration

There's nothing more motivating than seeing someone you know, trust, and like succeed in her entrepreneurial journey. In our community, be inspired, and your progress will motivate others to keep going.

Whether you're in the early stages of a business idea or scaling your business, you'll find what you need in our Society. There's a seat for you at the table, friend.
