Creating The Space Of Your Dreams
Following your intuition is your best bet to become a successful entrepreneur. The journey is full of surprises, and if you're not looking, you’ll miss that exit sign that leads to your desired destination.
"I thought I might become a YouTube makeup guru or makeup artist for tv and movies," shared Megan Aldoph. "[after enrolling in beauty school] I forgot all about makeup! I knew I wanted to solely focus on skincare because making people feel good in their own skin instead of covering it up was extremely gratifying to me."
Megan is the founder and owner of Beauty By Meg. A facial studio in Kaimuki that strives to keep her client's skin healthy, balanced, and glowing.
In this blog post, you'll hear how Megan made business decisions on her intuition. Allowing her to hit a new business milestone: opening her own studio in the heart of Kaimuki.
Why did you decide to become an esthetician?
My passion for skincare first began 6 years ago when I became completely obsessed with makeup and thought I might become a YouTube makeup guru or makeup artist for tv and movies. Before getting ahead of myself, I figured I should start with the fundamentals of makeup and learn how to care for the canvas (face) before diving deep into makeup. I went on to attend Rogers Academy of Beauty in Arizona where I then had a new found love for skincare that I had completely forgotten all about makeup! I knew I wanted to solely focus on skincare, because making people feel good in their own skin instead of covering it up was extremely gratifying to me.
Describe your experience through the significant milestones in your business, from becoming a full-time entrepreneur to opening your own space.
If you want to truly know who you are as a person, you’ll figure that out very quickly when you start a business - or at least that’s what happened to me. Starting a business has tested every facet of life from my personal relationships to my work life. Navigating through these obstacles means making a lot of sacrifices and mistakes that you have to be ok with, because from those mistakes you reach milestones in your business that you never thought was possible. A significant milestone for me didn’t happen until a year into my business when I started to see a consistent flow of clientele and gained a lot of traction on social media. And now another year has gone by with more sacrifices and mistakes along the way, that I was able to hit another milestone that pushed me to venture out on my own and open my own facial studio.
Why is it essential for you to create a special space for customers?
I really feel that I have the most supportive and kind-hearted clientele that it was a no brainer for me when I made the decision to open my own studio. My clients deserve a warm, inviting and relaxing environment when they come in for their facial treatments. I wanted a space that felt like home where they can unwind while getting pampered.
What are you most grateful for today?
I’m grateful for my health, my family, my partner and my closest friends. They have been there for me through thin and thin, whether that be through my personal or work life. It’s difficult to find a solid support system, but I feel that I have an amazing one that makes me feel that I can accomplish anything.
Where do you plan on taking your business in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years I hope to continue to grow in the space I have now and to have a steady clientele base that keeps me booked out for months with a balanced schedule allows me to live a happy and fulfilling life.
