Impostor Syndrome: Becoming the person you were meant to be

Ask any entrepreneur, and they’ll agree -- impostor syndrome is real. When you decide to step into the identity of an entrepreneur, it’s like wearing a ball gown with a hemline that’s 5” too long and a waist size 2” too wide. But when you choose to become the person you need to be, you’ll find the right people to tailor this beautiful gown so you can shine! The feeling of not being good enough gets the best of us by morphing our pure excitement of a new project into anxiousness and fear. Here’s what happens when you decide to stop being afraid and choose to level up.

Fear of stepping into the unknown will creep in, and you’ll start questioning, “who am I to achieve this big goal?” For most of us, we’ll seek encouragement from those around us, only to realize that they don’t know what to say other than, “that’s a great idea.” For a lot of people, the vision stops here. But not you!

There’s something inside of you that’s clawing its way out. You have a vision that’s clear as day -- how you want to spend your days, the work you want to accomplish, and the impact you want to create. But let me guess, it seems so far, right?

Perhaps it is. And maybe the milestones ahead will transform you into the woman who can flow with the role.

You’ve self-coached your way off the ledge multiple times and found the courage to keep going. But do you still hear that inner critic in the back seat of this road trip? She’s like the rear seat driver you want to tune out as you drive from California to New York. Well, throwing her out of the moving car isn’t the best solution because you’ll need her along the way. Let’s pull the car over for a second and have a heart-to-heart with her.

Yes. You may not be ready for the end game right now, but the road trip to your final destination will get you there. You’ll make pit stops where you’ll learn about new cultures, reconnect with why you started, and find the inner strength you never knew you had. Every piece you pick up along the way is shifting your identity into the person you NEED to become to see this vision through.

You are worthy. You are capable of success.

It’s time to stop fighting with your inner critic and embrace the feeling of being an impostor. To become the person you need to be, you’ll need to drive that car forward, pick up fun road trip buddies, and become the best version of yourself over time. It won’t be easy, and you’ll learn a lot about yourself along the way. But one thing for sure, it’s one hell of a ride.

The photo above embodies what our community is all about. It was taken by the talented Catwalk Studio during an event hosted by our member Tiare Thomas Harris on the venue of Treehouse Hawaii. And these two beautiful women who are choosing to step into their next level are amazing contributors of our community; they’re also wearing lei po’o’s from a workshop taught by our sis Rachel-Louise.
